Säntis in winter

What does the Säntis offer?

Actually, we wanted to go sledding somewhere, but since the sledding runs were closed in many places because of too little snow, we spontaneously decided to go on a day trip to the Säntis. When I was looking for a short hike on Schweiz Mobil, I discovered the latern path and was immediately enthusiastic about the idea. I imagined something very special, especially since there was by coincidence a full moon at that time. Perfect timing I would say. 🙂

This is how the panorama from Säntis looked like

When we arrived at the valley station at 3 pm. , we set off to take the cable car to the peak. When we reached the top, we checked out the panorama immediately.

Oh man, a biting wind was blowing up there, so after about 10 minutes we went back to the cozy warmth of the very modern furnished summit restaurant.

Walk near the Säntis valley station

Afterwards we went down again by cable car. Because it was still too bright for the lantern path, we explored the area a bit.

Afterwards we had to wait a bit longer for the sun to set. But it was more than worth it. It was simply beautiful, how the glowing ball disappeared behind the snow hills.

The Lantern Path of the Säntis

Just in time for the appearance of the moon we reached the forest through which the lantern path leads.

During the 40 minutes we witnessed a busy photographing of the lanterns and the full moon. The two motifs courted equally for the attention of the walkers. A well visible full moon in itself is already very impressive, but so many petroleum lamps, just in the middle of the forest, do have something too.

We ended the day with a super fondue and a delicious dessert!

Restaurant Passhöhe

At home, I had already tried in vain to make a reservation for a fondue in one of the three restaurants. As we were very much in the mood for it, we tried it at the end of our walk on good luck in the restaurant Passhöhe anyway. Lo and behold, the round table was kindly put at our disposal. This restaurant invites very much to a comfy get-together. The set up waitress had the house full perfectly under control and the recent and super airy fondue was a feast.

The icing on the cake was, that there were Öpfelchüechli on the map. It`s a delicious (and very sweet) Swiss dessert. And something for which my stomach ALWAYS finds (must find) space. 😉

The Restaurant Passhöhe is located a little below the Säntis valley station. Mo – Thu the Restaurant Passhöhe is only open in good weather. On request they`re happy to open for groups of 20 persons or more.
