2 Sleepovers on Tablas Island

Tablas Point Resort – A beautiful resort!

After our overnight stay in Caticlan we had a little back and forth in front of us. Now that we had my husband’s suitcase back, we took a Tuk Tuk to the port of Caticlan, where the crew of our next accommodation picked us up with a traditional banca boat at the docking station. The trip tok about 1.5 hours and went without any problems. Since it was already evening, we could go straight to the restaurant and enjoy a fine dinner right at the sea.

After the meal we joined the bar and had an interesting conversation with the owner Tasha and her brother, who was visiting over the holidays. Tasha started a cosmetics company early on and sold it in her mid-twenties. So she had a starting capital for her new project. Her brother Cameron`s a professional wake boarder. The family`s originally from South Africa and has built a wonderful and very special new home here.

Not only beautiful, a lot of attention is also paid to the environment!

They take care to separate the garbage (they take a long drive each week to take it directly to a waste deposit and an employee collects all the PET bottles and takes them to a company that buys it from her and recycles them). They use up to 30% recycled seawater for shower water and provide biodegradable shower products. When we were there, they were in the process of building a natural purification system for their facility (with microorganisms that clean the water). They also work against over fishing in the area. Also each year at Christmas they provide about 400 gifts for some of the children on the island (and even pack them all themselves). Wow!

Good exemplary and great what is achieved here!

We spent two nights here, but we split them up into one night before we set off for Romblon Island and one after our three nights there.

Glamping

The whole thing here was called glamping, which consists of camping and glamour. Which means, that you camp, but not in a normal tent, but (mostly) in a tent, which is e.g. in an open house. Often this “tent” is additionally equipped with furniture and a normal bed, which means more comfort.

We liked the whole resort very much. From the clean beach, to the restaurant and bar area, the food and the tent houses. And also the fact that we had to share the sanitary facilities with the other guests did not bother us.

Exactly 1 year after our visit Tablas Point Resort was completely destroyed by a typhoon!

The resort was great and will remain in our memories for a long time. The fact that I used the past tense for the previous sentences is not an accident on my part. Because when I just looked for the link to their homepage, I found out that after a typhoon at the end of 2019, the entire resort was destroyed. It has been rebuilt ever since. I`m extremely sorry to hear this and hope for the family and the whole crew that they can reopen soon. Judging by the entry on their homepage, this seems to be their goal.

Info:

  • Tablas Point. Agnamic, Sante Fe, Tablas Island.
  • Due to a typhoon the Glamping Resort has been closed since Dec. 2019 and has been under reconstruction since then (status March 2020).
