Our time in Cebu City – An extraordinary hotel and a great Chinese temple
We didn`t see much of Cebu, because we only spent our first night there as a bridge until the next morning flight and our last day of this 3-week holiday. So I cannot tell much about Cebu.
The Henry Hotel
I booked one night at the Henry Hotel. I`s a great hotel! The interior was in industrial style and a colourful mix. You reach it after about 20 minutes by car from Mactan airport.
Our room was very cool, also the view from the room was nice.
The lobby and restaurant area was also very originally furnished and even decorated for Christmas.

Our Christmas dinner – Unfortunately not as planned
Since we`ve never been on a trip over Christmas before, it was very important to me to enjoy our Christmas dinner in a nice restaurant. After I asked the restaurant of my first choice by mail if they were open on Christmas Eve and was informed in a nice reply that this wasn`t the case, I also asked the reception some time in advance if they could make a reservation for us at the restaurant Ampersand. This was answered in the affirmative and confirmed by e-mail. On the spot we learned that the restaurant did not have the usual opening hours due to the holidays and was already closed. A disappointment for me as a big Christmas fan… There was no restaurant in the immediate vicinity that was still open at half past eight in the evening, so we had to put up with a Korean restaurant. It was quite ok, but nothing special at all.
The food in the remaining holidays could only get better 😉 Which it did. 🙂
Our stay in Cebu City
On our flight back from El Nido, we had about 7 hours stay in Cebu, which I had booked like this on purposeso that we could visit the Chinese Taoist temple.
About 90% of the inhabitants of the Philippines are Christians, but about 15% of the total population in Cebu is the Chinese community.
The Taoist Temple
The first Chinese temple I saw. A great experience! I really liked the rich colors, the dragons, turrets and the many beautiful decorations.
Here`s the address of the temple: Beverly Hills Subdivision
Also the airport is a very nice building.
Before our return flight we went to the restaurant I originally planned for Christmas Eve for an early lunch. 🙂
Info and tips:
- Restaurant Ampersand, Banilad Town Center, Gov. M. Cuenco Avenue. Stylish interior. Lunch was good, but not overwhelming.
- Restaurant KAYU, 32 Sanson Road, Lahug, Cebu. Even if it didn’t work out, I think I can recommend the restaurant KAYU with a clear conscience, especially since the chef there belongs to the top. Also they have very good ratings online.
- La Maison Rose, 371 Gorordo Ave, Cebu. Unfortunately this was also not possible due to the holidays. But I`m sure that this address is also something very special.
- Culinary Cebu seems to have a lot to offer, but I wouldn’t plan more than one day for the city itself.
